1/8 Scale RC Dimensions

As you see, the dimensions can vary on 1/8 scale vehicles. There are so many different types of 1/8 scale vehicles, from ultra light on road buggies to heavy nitro truggies, and even specialized ones for rock crawling. Depending on what you are looking for, they all vary by a good amount. We’ll go over an example of each of the various types of 1:8 scale vehicles.

RC Car Scale Definition

Scale means that the size is dependent on the full size version of the vehicle. This is why not all 1/8 scale vehicles are the same size, rather they are 8 times smaller than the vehicle they are replications of. Compact vehicles are, of course, smaller than larger trucks, and therefore they’re 1/8 scale counterpart will be smaller as well.

It is important to always remember that the smaller the number is in the scale version the larger the car or truck will be (i.e. a 1/24 car is much smaller than an 1/8 car).

While the words size and scale are often used interchangeably, size will always give you more precise measurements than asking about scale.

RC Size Definition

In our article, we give you the length, width, height, and wheelbase numbers so that you are able to get a thorough sense of the actual size of the vehicle.

For length, this is from the tip of the nose of the body to the back of the car’s body.

For width, this is from the left of the car to the right of the car at its widest point.

For height, it is from the floor to the highest point of the car body.

Wheelbase measures from the middle of the front wheel to the middle of the back wheel.

With these measurements, you can accurately determine the size of the RC vehicle you’re considering and have a better sense than using “scale”, as scale widely fluctuates according to the body style of the vehicle you’re looking at.
